Q & A

How do continuous learning and/or continuous improvement fit into your professional life and achievements?

Early in my career, I was introduced to “Continuous Improvement Process” concepts while at Exxon.  I’m a firm believer in CIP, which necessitates an element of curiosity.  Curiosity leads to learning and development, both personally, and as a team.  In a team environment, making the case for a CIP initiative is fundamental to success.  As a leader, I listened to personnel who desired a structured means of advancing in the organization.  Together, we put together a comprehensive development program for all field operations personnel with a clear line of site to achievement and advancement resulting in measurable improvements in employee satisfaction and operational performance.

Why did you choose your profession?

The energy industry presented a challenge, and opportunity, to utilize a degree in engineering to pursue business, technical, operational, and commercial interests. There was no other industry, in combination with my education, that allowed me to pursue such a broad spectrum of career directions.

Do you live by any piece of advice or motto?

In business, it’s not how much money you make, it’s how much you keep. Dan Duncan, Chairman of the Board, Enterprise Products.

What are you passionate about?

My passion is to collaborate in a team atmosphere to achieve objectives aligned with corporate or division strategic goals in pursuit of creating or enhancing organizational value.

What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute to your success, and why?

I view an “ownership mentality” coupled with sense of curiosity that I attribute to the success that I’ve achieved. Curiosity leads to asking several questions about an organization and it’s goals, objectives and performance. Together with experience, an ownership mentality shapes priorities, decisions and recommendations associated with my passion to create or enhance organizational value.

Do you have a favorite season?

I love the fall. The seemingly sudden break from summer, colors, outdoor activities, are all very special.
